COMENIUS CORNER

Comenius Corner

Our school joined the program Socrates nowadays called Lifelong Learning Programme. We are involved in Comenius Project - multilateral partnership schools of Europe. There are four of us in Europe:
Szczecin (Poland) http://www.sp5stargard.webpark.pl
Leeds (UK) http://www.raynvilleprimaryleeds.org.uk
Macroom (Ireland) http://www.stcolmansbns.com
Kladno (the Czech Republic)
Click on the links above to learn more about each school.

We are going to work on common project called "Fairy Tales and The Environment in Europe" next two years. Our schools will make some products (DVDs, CDs, a Dictionary) with this focus and teachers will take part in 4 meetings in each country to exchange some materials for products and to learn more about foreign schools.

PRODUCTS:

One of the common products is a dictionary of typical fairy-tale expressions, characters and magic things of classical fairy tales. The pupils in a group called "Socrates Club" work on this subject and meet every Thursday to find out these items. Socrates Club consists of pupils from 6th and 7th classes in our school. There are some photos in which pupils are doing their task properly!

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. This publication [communication] reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.

TOPICAL NEWS:

In April 2009 four teachers from our school set out on the last meeting in Comenius project 2007-09 which took place in Macroom in Ireland. We visited a new school and its surroundings together with English and Polish colleagues. We were impressed by modern school equipment and integration of pupils in needs. We also tried the Irish weather - rain or at least a shower almost every day.

There is a presentation

We are looking forward to the Comenius teachers from Ireland, Poland and England visiting us in June

June was very rich in cooperation of Comenius project. Each school created a presentation showing how pupils take care of environment at the school. We could give these presentations personally on 2nd meeting in Kladno where another mobility of partnership schools took place from 12th to 15th June and our school was a host school.

Meeting in the Czech Republic

We were looking forward to the Comenius teachers from Ireland, Poland and England visiting us in June.

The Czech Republic as a host country Comenius 12-15 June

On arrival day ( Thursday - 12th June) 14 teachers of Comenius project took part in performance of a Czech national fairy tale in English called "Three golden hair of the Sunny King" at the Kladenske Theatre. This fairy tale was recorded during the play thus another product of our project called "National fairy tale in English"was finished. On Friday in the morning the group of teachers visited our Nursery and Basic school where they could get to know the way of Czech teaching, classrooms and space in the school. They participated some lessons during their visit and played some games in English with pupils in 4th and 5th classes. In the afternoon they visited one of the most historically known village during 2nd World war called Lidice and in the evening they had a national dinner at a restaurant in Kladno with a short show of the typical Czech culture ( national songs, dances…)

On Saturday the Comenius group went for a trip to Prague for sightseeing with some Czech teachers and on Sunday they went home with their experience.

There is a presentation about meeting in The Czech Republic.

Meeting in Leeds

In April 17th - 20th the Czech teachers took part in 1st mobility trip of Comenius project to British partnership school in Leeds. They met Polish, Irish and English colleagues from other partnership schools there and all of the teachers and headmasters had opportunitties to get to know British primary school system better. It was nice staying and experience full of new knowledge and habits of British schools.

Our pupils from 9th classes are preparing one of the product for Comenius project - a national fairy tale in English language. The end product of how each partner school will present a fairy tale from their country is left up to each individual partnership school. We are working on a play called "The three golden hair of the Sunny King", which will be on 12th June in "Kladenské divadélko" and it will be recorded during the play and worked up as a DVD. Teachers of Comenius group are going to arrive on this day to visit The Czech Republic for 2nd meeting. They will be invited to see this performance as well. So it is challenge for us to work hard!

There are some photos from a rehearsal. We are training pronunciation in English for the present.

You can see our new notice board here which has been set recently in a school hall to show you our common work of Comenius team.

The Christmas cards from pupils were exchanged among partnership schools during advent in order to find out more about Christmas traditions in each country. Pupils in our school were pleased by atypical Polish, British and Irish Christmas habits a lot!
